Celebrating the 2024 Army-Navy Game

CAPT Heath Johnmeyer, Commanding Officer (CO), PCU District of Columbia (SSBN-826) travelled to Washington, DC from Groton, CT.  He joined members of the USS District of Columbia (SSBN-826) Commissioning Committee -- Chairman RADM(ret) Dave Goggins, Beth Klein, Susan Chiaravalle, Rebecca Gansca, Leo Cruz -- and our 50 ft inflatable submarine to not only celebrate the 2024 Army-Navy Game at the Official Army-Navy Block Party at The Yards Park but to meet the people of the District and introduce them to their Namesake submarine, which the Navy expects to Commission in 2029.

Captain Heath Johnmeyer with a potential future USS District of Columbia Sailor

The USS District of Columbia is the first of 12 Columbia-class ballistic submarines being built.  It's also the first warship ever named for the District.  At 560 feet long (11 times the size of our inflatable!) and displacing 20,810 tons, the Columbia Class submarine will be the largest and most capable submarine ever built by the United States.

The CO and Committee members enjoyed sharing information about the men and women who'll operate this submarine, providing updates on the submarine's construction and our Commissioning activities as well as serving as photographers for all who stopped by!
